NLA Members Get First Hand Reports from Federal Agenices at DC Meetings
More than 50 NLA members, including members of the Board of Directors and many state/regional association presidents, received a series of briefings from federal agency officials on April 27-28 in Washington, D.C., immediately preceding the NLA group’s visits to legislators and key staffers on Capitol Hill.
Reporting first hand to the NLA were Dick Blewett, Deputy Director of the Office of Financial Assistance, Small Business Administration, who described the financial programs that are available for small companies, Chuck Horan, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Department of Transportation, who outlined the new performance standards for electronic on-board recorders (EOBRs) installed in commercial motor vehicles (CMVs), Bruce Andrews from the Senate Commerce Committee, who discussed the RIDE Act and distracted driving from the purview of his committee which has oversight over the Department of Transportation, Bill Coleman, Deputy Program Manager, CSA 2010, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Department of Transportation, who detailed the CSA 2010 initiative that is due to be fully rolled out by year end, and Nancy Leppink, Acting Administrator, Wage and Hour Division, Department of Labor, who commented on the fiscal year 2011 federal budget proposal that contains provisions to combat misclassification of employees as independent contractors.
